- Invented by Tim Collings, a Canadian from Simon Fraser University
- 1991 first prototypes tested in Canada. V actually stands for Viewer not violence.
- First displayed at the 1995 G-7 Summit in Brussels and sparked great interest amongst world leaders
- February 1996, Clinton signs a law requiring that all new televisions have V Chip Capability by 1998. Restricted to televisions 13” and larger
