I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Santa Clara University. I received Ph.D. from the Department of Computer Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette.

Responsible AI: I am the Director of Responsible AI, an interdiscplineary program at Santa Clara University dedicated to foster collaborative research, promote ethical AI education, and cultivate partnerships that ensure AI advances are safe, equitable, transparent, and beneficial to the broader good of society.

My research interests span information retrieval, natural language processing, and machine learning. I am particularly enthusiastic about principled approaches that are scalable, efficient, and generalizable in real-world problems.

I have created and taught several new AI courses both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including machine learning, data mining, natural language processing, web search, and information retrieval.

I was honored to receive the Teaching Excellence Award in 2017 and the Brutocao Family Foundation Award for Curriculum Innovation in 2024 at Santa Clara University.
